Arrival Day!
Arrival Day!
We made it! After a day of intense travel, the team has successfully arrived and gotten settled at Iglesia Comunitaria Kefale.
We started off our trip today at 4 in the morning, gathering at the airport to try and get an early start for our flight. We sailed through security and by 7:40, we were on the plane and ready to fly to Newark for our layover.
The layover and the following 5 hour flight were uneventful, but exhausting. When we finally arrived in Santo Domingo's Airport of the Americas, all of us were simultaneously tired and excited; an emotion that definitely trended more towards excitement as Pastor Tito pulled up in a van and loaded us on board.
Once we arrived at the church from the airport, Pastor Tito and his family treated us to a home cooked lunch of rice, beans, and chicken; given that most of us hadn't eaten since 7(ish) in the morning, a very tasty and welcome treat. Once lunch was eaten and cleaned up, we settled in to rest for about an hour before traveling across the street to Jumbo, the local supermarket, to grab groceries for the week's breakfast. Shopping in a different language turned out to be challenging and a little chaotic, but luckily Pastor Tito and another member from the church were there to help us out!
When we came back from the store, a few kids from the neighborhood noticed our team playing basketball in the church's courtyard and joined in! The next hour was a wonderful time of fellowship, both as we got to know different members of the church and as the guys of the group played with the local kids.
We finally ended our night after discussing with Tito the plans for the evening and debriefing the day's events internally with the team. We prayed over one another and discussed the day's takeaways, and then retired for bed.

Tomorrow, we'll be traveling to a rural village to help paint a church and fellowship with the local community. We'll also be working with Brisas, Kefale's kids program, to hang out with some more community kids. Keep an eye out for more chronicles from our team as we begin our ministry alongside Pastor Tito and Kefale Church!
